Pre-Marital Sax

Last night we all fell asleep at 4pm, and when we woke up at 6:30 we were glad to know that it wasn't Thursday, it was still Wednesday. Knowing that we hadn't wasted the night gave us new lease on life and opportunities for seizing moments. The change of seasons fucks with everyone's general disposition and sleep can happen at any moment really. Its confusing and growing up is stupid. The passage of time is too much to handle for sensitive people.

Anyway, we spent some time getting our lives back in order, opening a bottle of wine and laying out a fabulous spread helped, and then spent the following 2 hours getting dressed. We had heard that Jovan Alexandre and his band were playing at Hartford's corniest nightclub, Vibz Uptown in the North End. I never realized Hartford had an uptown. Vibz Uptown met every average expectation I had and in that way achieved perfection.

fabulous snack spread in Bonerland. snacks forever

VIBZ UPTOWN:
(I think:) Josh Bruneau, Jovan Alexandre, Jonathan Barber, Steve Porter, Sean Clapis

Sean fell off his chair but I was busy stirring my drink so I didn't catch it on camera.

alright see you later Vibz

then we got into our rental and followed everybody to Firebox on Broad Street

even more jazz at Firebox. i expected more turtlenecks than this...

I don't know why everyone still goes to Tisane, when they could just as easily go to Firebox. Its more comfortable, there's more room to hear and see jazz musicians play, the bartenders are better, the clientele seems much less annoying, there's a lot fewer bums outside trying to buy bus tickets to New Britain and you don't have to suffer the indignity of being at Tisane.

not a bad night. we're working out details now to have Jovan's band play at Bonerland for a December party.

Beyonce in Space

I want to watch Beyonce's new video "All the Single Ladies" over and over again all day long. It is so good. I think Beyonce is smarter and more stylish than anyone wants to believe. This video isn't about anything but her body, her two single-lady friends, her robot hand, and imagining what it would be like to let Beyonce get sexy on the set of George Lucas' early sci-fi classic, THX 1138.

Here she is in the Balenciaga robot leggings and bra, BET awards 2007...

...a look which looked better on art-star Terence Koh

George Lucas' THX 1138, 1971

I'm also reminded of Jorgen Leth's 1967 film The Perfect Human

Its possible that Beyonce is a perfect pop star

the Mass Exodus continues...

Last night I went to the Spigot for a couple beers so I could bask in the light of Adam Bulger for a few moments before he high-tails it out of here for New Jersey. He quit the Hartford Advocate to take a job at a new online newspaper somewhere in the metropolitan area. Adam is only the latest Hartford citizen to shake the miserable dust of this hell-hole off of his feet and make a break for it while the getting is good. Sadly we won't have anymore wise-guy Bulger celebrity interviews to look forward to in the Advocate or any of his hard-hitting investigative reporting. I wonder which unpaid intern they're going to promote to lead reporter now that Adam has left...

Maura H, sporting her must-have fashion accessory for fall, the clip-on koala bear. She's busting out of here in about a month to join Adam in New Jersey and take her old job back in Manhattan. Hartford gets lonelier and lonelier...

Is anyone marching in the re-fashioned Hooker Day Parade revival? I think I'm going to go check it out. Its on Sunday at 3pm starting on the corner of Allyn and High streets, downtown. Bizarre costumes are invited as well as anything else you want to do, say, wear or believe...
