Ethiopia

Had dinner last night at Abyssinian Restaurant on Farmington Ave. Pretty babies Jeff Perez and Chino Kim were there with us, sharing this magical third-world experience. Ethiopian food is really good and its fun to eat with your hands, especially in a large group of good-looking people.

we can afford it

Later on we went to the media arts department show at the Hartford Art School. Here is the website they launched for the show. The most interesting part was this group of Hartt school grad students playing improvised noise and drone. It almost sounded kind of beautiful in the art school atrium.

I had beers later with Sam Ekwurtzel, Greg Surman and Greg Surman's woman, Christina Blakemore

Barca wins

I went to the gay happy hour last night at Real Art Ways, which sucked. It was less than five minutes after I got there when I retreated into the RAW office to hide from all of the tired old gays to consult with KNS on our plans for the evening. Our plan was to go have happy hour at the fabulous new restaurant around the corner, Barca (pronounced "barsa" the "c" has a cedilla under it. I don't know how to make that happen on blogger.com). We made one more trip around the room to make sure none of the gays wanted my number.

With that unpleasantness behind us, we had a lovely time at Barca. Its located in the same building as the Design Center on Park St. Gabriela Galarza Block painted about a dozen large murals for the space, which are just ravishing, and the food is pretty good so far, although they do not yet offer a full menu. It's supposed to be Spanish cosmopolitan atmosphere and fare. A lot of Gabriela's murals are Miro or Picasso inspired. They have two floors, and removable walls which will disappear with warmer weather. I basically want to go there all the time. From now on when someone with me has the knee-jerk reaction "let's go to Tisane!" -I'm going to suggest that we do ourselves a huge favor and go to Barca instead, effectively killing two birds with one stone, avoiding Tisane and patronizing a sweet new restaurant.

Night Terrors

Last night began with an inspired little dinner party for the pretty people at Alice's house in West Hartford, followed by the usual dance party at Vegas B. Cori Beardsley was in town, making the night a special occasion as if we ever need a special reason.

At one point late in the evening, I leaned over to a dear friend and said that everyone at this party hates someone that they used to love. Everyone has failed. Youth is not wasted on the young. Life's lessons, perspective, and social security are wasted on the very old.

D. Gookin in the Hartford Advocate

Steve and Edie wrote a piece about our very own Mike Birnbaum, D. Gookin, this week in the Lush Life column in the Hartford Waaa-dvocate. You can read it here. Out getting the attention he deserves.

Happy F***#n' Birthday, Amy

Last night I got the phone call for Amy Fuck's birthday party downtown, so I got dressed, put my face on, chugged a beer and went to meet a bunch of Monday night drunks at Sweet Jane's. Derek and Sara took over the DJ booth and played a like 12 gay anthems in a row because I was there, so was Adam and Philip, and Amy likes it. Besides Amy's party no one else of note was there, except for the mega cute bartender Kara.

Natalie is moving to New York in like 5 minutes. Waaaah.

happy f**#n birthday Amy Fuck

hey Heather

I was convinced that this guy Philip wanted to beat my ass because I'm such a homewrecker, which he more or less admitted to, but last night we shared tears and text messages and I think we're going to be like this (imagine me twisting my forefinger and middle finger together like "best friends").

happy birthday Jillian

Well, Jillian and Faith made a lovely dinner last night for a short guestlist which included roasted vegetables, a delicious fresh tomato pasta, and a darling little red pepper risotto. We drank tons, discussed our favorite NPR news correspondents, and I tried very hard to pet the cat but it didn't want me to.
