Haunted Hangover

There haven't been any posts this week because every party I went to was a total yawn. I'm hoping to change all of that tonight when I go to visit John Kane in New London and try to reconnect with my commitment to partying. If anyone can remind me why we do what we do all the time over and over again, it's the genius, John Kane. Tomorrow night I'm going to Harlem for my publicist's birthday party. Should be good, but we'll see. In the meantime, watch this amazing Sinead O'Connor/Shane McGowan music video. It sums up pretty much everything in life that I stand for.

Kevin Forever!

What a long day yesterday was. I won't bore everybody with the longer bits, but anyway, I went to the bizarre Newark, New Jersey all day on business, and then stopped at the wonderful Kevin Van Aelst's birthday party in New Haven on my way back to Hartford. It was intimate, and even magical, as evidenced by all of the magical dream-like photographs below. Then I went to Sweet Jane's at 12:30 for Brent's birthday party for like 30 minutes and had some real fun. Everyone refuses to grow up. We are being dragged kicking and screaming into adulthood, which I guess is why birthday parties are what they are.

Dreaming and humping tonight

Everyone is going out to Sweet Janes on Pratt Street tonight for the Dream Team's dance party. It's three people's birthday. There's going to be raffles, celebrity guests, illicit sex in the bathrooms, and non-stop dancing. I'll probably show up really late because I have to go to New Jersey this afternoon to conduct some quick business, followed by a stop in New Haven to say hey to KVA.

Fox in the Snow

Yeah yeah yeah... familiar story: Real Art Ways followed by Vegas Boulevard. I didn't take any pictures at Vegas because everyone had fun, but nothing spectacular happened and everyone knows what goes on there. Early in the night I stopped in at the Paper/New England artist talk which was pretty good, and Alice looked impeccably chic, so those two things alone made the night worthwhile.

Photographer Yves Mathurin and yoga instructor Justine Fuller, who teaches pole dancing classes in Parkville, which I think I need to do

I would really like to run into this girl again, because she's a stone-cold fox.

Beth David Bingo

Last night we went to play bingo at Beth David Synagogue on Farmington Ave in West Hartford. Artist Kevin Van Aelst first invited me to this weekly event when we were both in art school. Back then we used to get flasks of whiskey, sneak drinks during the game, and play along every week in total horror-struck awe. The rich tragicomedy of the human condition unashamedly reveals itself at bingo, and oftentimes the revelation is way too hilarious and/or disturbing for our feeble minds to capably grapple with. Jesus did not show up to toss out the moneychangers, although the Jews did look nervous. Unprovoked hysterical laughter is common as well as sinking dread, depression and fear, likely experienced simultaneously. The gambling, chain-smoking, free (bad) coffee, Judaism, poverty, and fluorescent lighting are an overwhelming combination, but totally worth what you have to pay to get in, even if you don't win any prize money. The real prize is an encounter with common everyday misery, slow and eventual death, hunched over and gathered together in what I guess you'd call a house of worship.

Gambling away the social security check

At one point, J. left our table to go try and make new friends. When "O-69" was called, one of those ladies whispered to him, "oooh, you like that?"

I was yelled at for tapping my feet too loudly, so needless to say, I did not feel free to take a lot of pictures.

Literal Disco Fever

We went out to Shag Frenzy last night at Sweet Jane's and now I'm sick with a cold and a fever. I've spent the day overdosing on vitamins and minerals. I also watched a documentary on the Sundance Channel about Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, drooled a bit, and made chicken soup. Dr. Feelgood come take care of all my pains and ills.
