Today I went to go look at my friend Sarah Kelley's studio. I love her paintings. They're abstract oils on canvas, a bit like Helen Frankenthaler meets drugs, meets sex, meets biology, meets your vital organs, meets cotton candy. They are impossible to photograph accurately (although Sarah assures me that she's figured out a way), so take my word that they're much more delicious on a wall and in person than on my blog. The paint is really thick and syrupy. The intricate material reactions and patterns are unexpected and controled simultaneously for sometimes very sophisticated reflective light and color gradations. At the same time they espouse this sort of slacker-chic, like, "so what if all I did was pour some paint on a canvas?"
Anyway, Sarah is hilarious and a babe, and I can always count on her for some juicy relationship and love advice, as well as the best gossip. She's also always well dressed, even when she's painting. There were Coach shopping bags cluttering one corner of her studio today when I arrived.
Tomorrow night, Maura H. and I are going to a benefit for the Hartford Independent Film Fest at Barca in Parkville. The party starts at 7pm and as I understand it, films will be on view during the event. Suggested donation is $25 (cheap for a benefit, especially right in the thick of benefit season), but no one will be turned away, cheapskates. More information is on their website. The actual fest is coming up on November 6-9. My favorite thing about this festival is that a portion of the films they are presenting will be shown at The Art Cinema, the legendary old porn theater on Franklin Avenue. Hilarious.
ALSO... This morning my publicist Carolyn was on the Today Show modeling gladiator shoes, for a piece that Us Weekly did on new high heel peeep-toe trends. She was way hot, even if I did want her to own the runway a little bit harder and really power walk all over set. Sexy Carolyn has finally made it!!! hahahahahhahahhaha Here's the clip:
